Aluminum Titanium Boron is a grain refining agent for the manufacturing of aluminum alloys. Available in different Titanium/boron ratios, selection of ratio between Titanium and Boron will depend on several factors as desired grain size, production process conditions and percentage of recycled aluminium used in the alloy. Aluminium Titanium Boron is an integrated part of any aluminium casting unit to improve and enhance the homogeneity and properties in Aluminium and its alloys. The crystallization of aluminium into coarser columnar, equiaxed or dendritic grains is undesirable. Coarse particles tend to cluster and lead to poor feeding characteristics and lower tensile strength and wear resistance properties. Aluminium Titanium Boron addition helps overcome these problems by refining the grain structure of the metal with the help of titanium and boron.
Major Applications of AlTiBor are as follows; It improves mechanical properties by reducing grain size, it improves feeding characteristics, it improves chemical Homogeneity of the product, it ensures freedom from cracking in rolled and forged products, it improves surface finish and response to anodizing, it avoids centerline separation and reduces central porosity and lastly it has a very simple environmental friendly addition method. Aluminium Titanium Boron is in general in the forms of Cut Rod, Rod Coil.
The most common AlTiBor Grades are; AlTiBor5/1, AlTiBor3/1 and AlTiBor5/0,2, that these numbers next to each grade are showing the Titanium and Boron contents with the balance of Aluminium.
