More info
Ferro Boron is a Ferro Alloy composed of Iron and Boron with a Boron content ranging from 10% to 20%, but mostly in between 17% to 20%, with the minor elements content such as Silicon, Aluminium and Carbon, being the defining factor of the grade of product.
Ferro Boron is mainly used in; The improvement of hardenability of Carbon, Manganese and Low Alloyed Steels, The boration surface treatment of steels, nitrogen scavenging (reduction of nitrogen) in rapidly solidified materials, The manufacturing of metallic glass. Ferro Boron can improve steel’s quenching degree and mechanical behavior in carbon steels and alloy structural steels. Ferro Boron is also used in the production of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets. Boron has a high neutron absorption capability; thus, it is added to certain types of stainless steel for use in the nuclear industry. Ferro Boron increases hot workability and creep resistance, improves neutron absorption, Production of low carbon cold working wire rod, it is also used in the production of automotive sheet steels. It can also be used to partly replace other alloying elements e.g. Cr, Ni and Mo in certain alloy steels.
